Alhamdulillah, today marks our 1st wedding monthsary. Still thinking if I should continue blogging about it or not since I have been on hiatus from blogging.
Went out with my darling bride to be Ms S who will be getting married in May 2016! My cousin got engaged too but it was rather last minute, hence, I wasn’t able to attend. Anw, I’d owe Ms S a visit to Arab street for kain hunting(after exams and term4) for the other 6 Bridesmaids as she had totally bought the whole stock of dress from fashionvalet! Moreover, due to the sizes, there’s a need to get tailored dresses for the other 6 bridesmaids due to the cutting of the dress.
So the hunt for the BM kain began. It was raining heavily by the time we arrived at Arab street so we had a quick drink at Starbucks first. Brought her to the same kain place that I went few months back for another friend’s wedding!
And at that same shop we found the perfect kain satin. The one above is the kain satin ceylon (matte type) and the shop at Arab st do have it but it’s slightly darker so we just got the normal kain satin which is of the exact same shape except it is slightly shinier?
It was $5.50 per metre so the makcik in me tried to haggle for discount and we got it at $4.50! Nak minta $4 tapi tak dapat. Haha.
Afterwards we headed to Golden Landmark and Ms S got tudung bawal for her future Mummy in law. We then head to the place that I tailored my previous Bridesmaid dresses and checked the price for the exacr same design.
For simple dresses it would be $60-65 while it can go up to $75 as there’s no double lining. The lady was there and she remembered me of course! After much haggling with her, the cost of tailoring was brought down to $65 because i told her we have 6 dresses and bla bla bla haha. Thank You Mbak! This coming sunday the other ladies will be going down to the shop:) she even has an instagram account too! Love the service especially since we don’t have time to go down to Msia!
Thank you Ms S for purchasing the dresses for all of us:)!
Afterwards we headed to Meyson & Soo kee + Lee Hwa as well as Goldheart looking at rings and Platinum rings for her fiance 😉
Ms S is the one that my group of girls the Mak Chicks had surprised her with a Bridal henna from f.auzellaartistry or used to be known as I.sabella Heaven Henna! I made the bookings a few days after Ms S’s rather short surprise engagement. Trust me, it was a surprise for her too because everything was set within less than 2 wks!
I have seen Kak Fauzellah’s works and they’re amazing. I’d gotten her as well during my engagement:) you girls may want to book her for your big day! Her works are really beautiful!
Doesn’t look anything like the colour below kan:
Remember I mentioned about the bridesmaids outfit? My gf who is getting married next year May has decided to grt the grape colour. BUT it was super dark & super off from the colours on poplook. She was super disappointed and has decided to return all 10 bridesmaids outfits that she bought. So yeah, we have been searching for others and was loving this design but sadly, no stock 😦
We ended up thinking of purchasing from poplook again!
This time round, we shall just order 1 outfit and let’s see if the colour seems perfect or not. And I am pretty excited for her wedding! A little sad too cos it is not gonna be the same.
Anyways, can’t wait for bridesmaid duties next year with Ms H!
Colour wise seems relatively a-ok:)
We took quite a no of quotations from various photo&video companies and from there we streamlined our choices.
During the recent expo trip we had taken a look at this company as well. They’re also collaborating with d/e/m/u/r/eweddings.
Videography is a no/no from the fiancé cos one of the videos shown, apparently fiancé could spot the camera’s head or something abt the camera. He is that observant and particular about videography but the photography is not too bad(their prices are affordable!).Which is why he emphasizes on cinematic videos since he loves videos that can tell a story.
By the way, they also collaborated with f/a/b/u/lens and I’ve had wonderful experiences with f/a/b/ulens services! Plus now they have cute credit card size photos avail & the prices during expo were so affordable in my opinion! But since SMR will be throwing in photobooth package for us, Alhamdulillah, and the two of us are not fussy about it, asalkan ada, so we both decided not to engage it.
Come, let me share with you some quotations that I received:
Photo & video by r/e/e/l/w/erkz production Photobooth: F/a/bulens
Omg MAD love for their pictures but the prices are ridiculously high! Their booth was together with f/a/t/i/m/ahmohsin as they’re collaborating together. You can also get them even if you’re not taking the andaman services. But the person liasing with us couldnt answer our queries that much because if i am not mistaken their spokesperson for the company wasnt there.
Super love how there’s 2 photographers and they’re not particular about the no. of hours! And for those who wants a female photographer they do have as well:) you can check out her works @roslinasazali on ig!
Kak airon’s service is super good and she’s really efficient 😉 hint-hint!
Seen her in action during my recent bf wedding and I love it ! Really friendly lady. They have fudge as well and my other friend got her as well.
I initially thought we would get them but mr fiance didn’t want a basic videography kan, so plan cancelled.
So there you go, some quotations from the various vendors 🙂 Do take note that there might be changes to the pricing so do email the various vendors.
Anyways, I just talked to my relative who will be getting married as well and she took A/a/tphotography! She said they’ll get crystallised finish photos and there’s diamonds which are swarovski crsytals omg! And best of all it’s even better quality than the ones offered by E/s/a weddings that she and her fiance asked for refund from E/s/a! This really got me excited because now I am thinking about getting them as well! But still keeping my E/s/a weddings package of course 🙂
But, we already took the photography package together with the bridal. I’ve emailed a/atphotography though and they’ve invited me to come down to their boutique for an appointment. Let’s wait and see if beau and I decided to go for the appointment or not 🙂
Both beau & I have streamlined the different vendors that we both love for our big day. And we have come to a conclusion that we will be getting r/e/drape projects for our big day, In Shaa Allah.
Finally replied to their email on wednesday & set an appointment with them. We managed to get a slot on the same week and they were really fast in getting back to us! Most importantly, their place were super near to us as well! BEST.
Beau even made a passing remark about how he loved that all of the vendors we have met are within our area @ the West side and not at the East! Alhamdulillah!
We had a quick dinner after work & beau was saying if we can just come down and signed straightaway since we already take a look at the packages offered and made our decision! Haha but of course, we still have to listen to their conversation kan???
We were greeted by Rahim when we arrived & Nurul went through the packages with us. Nurul then showed us their portfolio and we watched a few videos. Definitely am in love with their works!
Based on all of these, Nurul told us that we can take the elegant 2.0 package. But, some clients want the interview section and thus would be taking the lush package.
This is the quotation package we’ve received somewhere in July this year but on the day we were there, Nurul showed us the revised package. Prices are still the same except for the length of the full video and the no of hours for the lush package.
For the lush 2.0 video package that nurul showed us this October, instead of 45 min it has changed to 30 mins for full video. The reason being is that 45 mins is too draggy and they want people to not get bored while watching the video. Hence, it is now at 30 mins.
So afterwards, we made our booking and sealed the deal. Another couple came over at 9pm but we were still going through the invoices and beau had some questions that he had in mind such as “Dyou have drones? Can we use it?” HAHA. What i love is the fact that despite making the booking already, Nurul did not rushed us to leave although there was another client waiting. Her husband, ayim, the videographer mingled with the other clients while we continued our discussions which also included about lesson plans and work as well as the pay increment for civil servants (that sadly, doesn’t apply to me because i’m still relatively new in the service. Haish. 4% is alot please. Tkpe la, no rezeki). This happens when you have two educators together!
We took the post wedding interview option but we would most definitely want them to follow us for our outdoor shoot. In fact, as we also have pre/post wedding photoshoot with Esa weddings, they’re able to follow us as well. It would be for 2 hrs! & the good news is, they won’t be charging us extra should they follow us in to JB! But, should we decide to go to Melaka etc that is relatively far away, additional hourly charges still applies!
Anyways, we both walked off from their place with sense of contentment. We are both absolutely confident that they can deliver their works as promised. Super excited please! Can we fast forward to 2017 already?!
& most importantly, we trust Allah’s plans because not only I walked away with the dream videography vendor, but I now have a tutee! Alhamdulillah! I was just thinking about doing private tuition on that day and Allah brought me to mine:) Literally left their place feeling so happy. #syukuralhamdulillah
Choosing & picking the right vendors are one of the most crucial and important decisions to be made. The right ones will help to ensure that the wedding event would be able to run smoothly. Before beau & I picked and streamlined our chosen vendors we took several (precautions/ steps).
Do take note that Beau & I have a wedding notebook and we have an excel spreadsheet on google document as well. We also have a wedding moodboard on the colour themes & feel that we want in our wedding which I have just made recently. Of course, we wouldn’t be able to do our dream wedding which is a wedding by the sea for a small group of people but it is okay(our lifelong dream since dating days while in schl tau!). We are both pretty contentend & excited to get married to one another and that’s all that matters 💕
Anyway, here’s some tips/ guidelines that we abide to when choosing a vendor:
1. The 3Rs.
3Rs bukan reduce, reuse & recycle ok!Haha.
It’s Research, Ranking & Recommendations (dream vendors)
First and foremost, we will both do our homework in finding the right vendors for us. Most of the time, I will list down the different vendors and then we will both take a look at their portfolios online. Then, we will choose our favourites in order to streamline the number of vendor choices.
This depends on your future husband as some guys tend to want to have the final say and be the one to choose the vendors. I do have a colleague of mine whereby her fiancé is the one who does most of the research & the one who decides the theme and look of the wedding. Super cute because during their appointment with D/aun D/Co, her fiancé was the one discussing on the layouts as well as the flower types etc that he wants. The fiancé was also the one who drew out their pelamin concept for the decor teams. My colleague, she only gave inputs on the colour themes mostly. Haha.
Ok back to the main point, both myself and fiancé , we will both discuss our likes and dislikes as well as our expectations that we hoped to achieve or have in our wedding. It’s definitely important to be on the same page as our event is a combined wedding.
For instance on videography, I didn’t mind having a standard videography but Mr Fiancé wants cinematography as he loves videos that tells a story. Personally, it is not that important to me but of course, we need to come to a compromise and thus, I agreed to cinematic videos.
We will also get recommendations from ex BTBs or relatives etc on the various vendors. Getting to know the experiences people had with the vendors is important. Questions about how they treat people behind the scenes and if they handle stress well can tell you a lot about the services.
We both will then email and get quotations from a list of different vendors. We tend to then rank the vendors and stick to 3-5(max) vendors for comparison. Mostly, it’s just 3 vendors actually.
2. Budget (affordability)
Afterwards, we both will set a budget and write it down in our wedding book as well as on the google doc. It is very important to take note of the price of their services as well. From the quotations given, we will then picked out the ones that works within our budget or close to our budget.
For instance, should our photography budget be at $2k, we will list down the vendors that quotes us less than $2k. We will also choose the vendors that are within a +$300 range above our budget. We will then compare the different vendors that we have highlighted.
We will then look at what can they offer us based on the quotations. From the services, we will choose the ones that is deemed the best and right ones for us. We will rank the vendors according to our preferences as well.
Staying within budget is crucial to ensure that we do not overspend and will have enough money left after the wedding event. We are funding our own wedding and hence, budget is definitely important.
In order to set aside the budget for each vendor, we definitely need to do a research on the market rates of such wedding services. We also need to prioritise and take note of the services that we would like to splurge on. For instance, some couples would love to splurge on bridal / food / locations etc. So it all depends on the couple’s preferences.
3. Services / first impressions
Next, we will take a look at the services provided by the vendors.
Are they good? Easy to contact? Easy to talk to / liased with? Compatibility with couple?
I’ve heard of some stories from my friends who had trouble getting a hold of their vendors. Yes we do understand that some vendors are busy but sometimes after a pretty long time of about a month, they still do not update and get back to my friends. It is difficult of course because at times, the couple need the answers to plan out itineraries or to answer queries or to liase with other vendors. It doesn’t hurt to reply with a text that says I’ll get back to you soon or maybe something like I’ll ttyl? Correct?
I’d a friend who couldn’t get hold of her vendors for weeks & she was so fed up that she finally decided to text other vendors for quotations. She’d paid deposit to the vendor of course. Hearing such stories makes me feel much much wary of vendors actually.. That’s why the services renderes / first impressions means a lot to me. This again highlight the importance of recommendations from ex clients.
Nevertheless, one has to take one’s word with a pinch of salt. Everyone has different experiences with different vendors. There is no one caterer, band, or florist that is perfect for everyone. Which is why chemistry and compatibility with the chosen vendor is key. Do take note of their work ethics and style of works as well.
We both look for a diverse portfolio when we chose our videographer. Even our videographer’s PR, was mentioning how their company caters to each and every single personality instead of having the same template or style of works for their videography.
Oh yes, do ask your vendors if they have worked with the other vendors that you have chosen. I’ve heard stories about how there are some who cannot work together and this is important because in order for a wedding to go on smoothly, one needs teamwork from everyone.
Do ask your vendors if they have done weddings at the same venue as you did before too. In some cases, a vendor having an existing relationship with a venue can be a big plus. They’ll already know about any shortcomings and how to work around them.
Most importantly, right after you have made your deposit and chose your vendors. You will definitely feel deliriously happy to a point that both you and your fiancé might do a little dance.
That’s the case for us. We will feel relieved and good about our choices. & a litte update for all of you, we have decided to push our dateline for choosing photo&videogaphy to this month!
We have booked our videographer already & after seeing them, mr fiancé was deliriously happy sampai nak tolak i into the swimming pool all haha.
Side track a bit, someone mentioned this to me:
Never use all of the same vendors that a friend did ; it can leave your wedding feeling like a repeat.
Well, I agree to disagree. What about you?
Both beau & I have these vendors in mind for videography. We have asked for quotations and sat down with a few vendors though.
These are the list of vendors we have talked to / got their quotations from:
However out of this few, we really loved
Finalising & choosing the videographers will be done by mr fiancé because he wants cinematography la apa la 😂 oh wells. I think this is seriously a big headache for us. Technically,it’s been relatively easy for us to choose our caterer, our bridal etc and this videographer issue is the most confusing one, so we shall see how.
Initially our budget for videography was at $2k. & if possible we wanted both photo & video to be between $2.8-$3k. But since le fiancé wants it to be cinematic and what’s nots, we have upped the budget to $4k for both photography & videography.
I think these is really important because photos & videos will last for a pretty long time and such memories could not be replaced. So we don’t mind forking out more money for good quality photo&videos as we didn’t love our engagement photography vendor which is d—– photography services. Sigh, still pretty bummed about it though.
